Four people have been confirmed dead in Yola, Adamawa State after an explosion hit the Jimeta Divisional Police Headquarters on Thursday, February 25, 2016.
The victims, all senior police officers, lost their lives in the blast which was caused by a bomb which had been retrieved from Boko Haram terrorists and kept in a store at the station.
The deaths have been confirmed by the State Commissioner of Police, Gazali Mohammed.
The spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sani Datti also confirmed the deaths while describing the explosion as
“accidental”.
“An accidental explosion occurred at about 12noon today (Thursday) at the Police anti-bomb squad office, Jimeta, Adamawa State,” Datti said in a statement.
“Four
persons have been confirmed dead, while a few were injured and
evacuated to Federal Medical Centre, Yola. Nearby buildings such as
Jimeta Primary School, Post Office, old NITEL building and some
neighbouring houses were affected,” he added.
The
explosion is also said to have left about 20 people injured and the
affected persons are currently receiving treatment for their wounds.
