Fake drugs and medical products worth N5 billion have been confisticated in the last two months by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The Director-General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii, disclosed this Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital at the 37th International Confernce and Annual General Meeting of the Association of General and Private Medical Medical Practitioner s of Nigeria (AGPMPN).
Orhii, who was conferred with award by the medical association, said that the confiscated drugs, included 244 containers of viagra products
, which could cause instant heart attack and other drugs that could lead to instant death when taken.
These confiscated drugs, he said were waiting to be destroyed in the agency’s laboratory in Oshodi, Lagos State.
The NAFDAC boss, who sounded a note of warning to people dealing in the illegal business, pledged that the agency would not relent in its fight against “these enemies of the society”.
He, however, said the introduction of technology in combating sharp practices in the health care industry had drastically reduced the influx of counterfeit and fake drugs in the country.
